Brief Description

Ziggy was a turning point for our rescue.

When this 10 year old male Lab Retriever was surrendered by his family to the Carson shelter, they said Ziggy had "attacked the owner's daughter, went after the owner himself, and had a history of bites". There was no confirming documentation (doctor bills, etc). So, initially, he would be available to experienced rescues only, but thanks to the new shelter rules, he was quickly quarantined and moved to the euth list.

We acted quickly once Ziggy was euth-listed and got a rescue plan with experienced dog handlers in place. Then we made several calls and called our network to action with posts and reposts on social media. #FreeZiggy was the war cry.

After a few days of constant phone calls and correspondence, the shelter allowed us to rescue Ziggy! And now we are happy to report that his "aggression" (which was food-related) has been eliminated and he is happy and getting along splendidly with his new foster family.

We have stormed the hill and successfully fought City Hall! :-)

You guys!!!! GREAT NEWS!

Carson Animal Care Center has allowed Ziggy (#A5039831) to be rescued by a partnered rescue! The future is bright for this senior lab who had NO future to look forward to only a few days ago.

Home Fur Keeps is ecstatic about this news. Manager Gutierrez showed us once again that he is working tirelessly to ensure every dog in his care gets a fighting chance at survival.

PLEASE STAND DOWN from further emails regarding Ziggy's release - they heard you loud and clear!!

BTW, it should be noted that Ziggy DOES have a bite history for food aggression. But we'll fix that. <3 Thank you so much for getting your voices heard!! Ziggy's life has been spared, thanks to you. But keep in mind that he's not safe until he's OTB! We're waiting on an indemnity waiver, so he will not be released just yet. In the meantime we would love to generate more pledges for Ziggy's vetting, medical, and training.
